Three little pigs and more.

This week we finished up our Once upon a time theme.
We read the book The three little pigs ๐Ÿท and for art we made straw and sticks and brick houses.๐Ÿก
I would have never thought to do this, but thanks to funshine express, I did not even have to think about it. It came with the curriculum and already to go. I cannot beat that.

We also talked about Humpty Dumpty and what he sat and one who put him together again. The kids loved th bandaids to fox him. They wanted more. What I like about these is they sho ownership and creativity for each child. Th eggs are cut out by the child, in wanted bricks, one did not. They mark their own creativity on it

Another activity we did was to put the puzzle of Humpty Dumpty.
I have really enjoyed  this unit and look forward to starting another one tommorrow . Happy last day of January. Man, time flies when we are learning about once a upon a time.

Stay tuned for our next theme .

Once upon a time fun!

This week is full of fairy tails and I love it. I remember ready and learning about Fairy tails as a child.๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿผ
I had some favorites and not so favorites. Little red riding hood was not a favorite. Kinda scary to me๐Ÿ˜ฎ
My favorite was the 3 little pigs ๐Ÿท Not real sure why, but it was.
"The Little Red Hen" I enjoyed as well. Plain and simple, when you do not help and work together, why would you be rewarded with the prize?
The kids seemed to catch on pretty quickly๐Ÿ˜‰

Goldilocks and the three bears is always a fun one to read. I personally like to make all the voices of the bears. Makes it much better they way.  I love the Funshine express activity to go with book.  One Goldilocks had curly hair, the other one straight. Some bears had ears, some did not. It was very simple to retell the story using the story prop.

The game for the Month was a "Three little ๐Ÿป " matching game. There are many ways the game can played. You can match the pig to the house that had the same materials the pigs were holding. You could switch them and tell your own story. You could put the houses in order from the story. It could on. The girls really enjoyed playing this and had great dialogue with it.

What was your favorite fairy tale story?

Little red riding hood

Little red riding hood is a story that can be scary, but still turn out good. We talked about how this was a nursery rhyme and just pretend.
After reading the story, we made baskets and put cookies in them.
We acted out little red riding hood riding hood. I was the grandma and the wolf. Boy, we had fun with that!๐Ÿบ

The math game that came in Funshines curriculum was  a  matching game that matched the character to the character on the card they picked.

We also talked about real and by real using these word cards. One side has the English word and then the other side has the Spanish word. The example was one was a cartoon and one was real.

We will continue our Once upon a time theme the rest of January . Crazy how January is just about over.

Once upon a time

This week we started our Once upon a time theme.
We read the 3 little pigs (which was the book that came with the funshine curriculum) and talked about why the brick house did not fall down.
Today Orlando The obedient Ox got introduced.

We talked about what being obedient means.
We listen to our parents or the adult in charge.
I asked the children how they were obedient.
1. Using walking feet
2.cleaning up
3. Use gentle hands
4. Stop

The letter O is the letter of the week. We made O is for owl pictures.
O is for other things as well.

These cards are great conversation starters. We look at the letter O and think of what shape it looks like. What others things begin with O and we also learn the O in sign language.

We will continue our once upon a time theme and look forwarding to doing the fun activities with the kids.

Snowman and weaving

This week we talked about snow flakes, more mittens and ice.
We made  these snowman by rolling paper into a cylinder and adding in cute accessories. The kids enjoyed looking through them and using them as puppets.

We practiced counting to 11 by placing mitten erasers on each square.

Another book from the funshine curriculum book list is A Moutain of Mittens. I love hearing the kids retell the story. They yell really loud when they get to the part where it says "You forgot your mittens."
They did a pretty good job weaving paper in and out making these mittens. We need to practice more for sure.

Have a great weekend ! We are suppose to get ice tips weekend!

N and the 3 little kittens

This week we talked about the letter N. We looked for words that started with N. Numbers was one of them and the activity was to put number stickers on the letter N.

For color , number and shape practice, the daily basics activity for funshine express was using tweezers and cotton balls and transferring 11 cotton balls onto a colored plate or in a jar.

One of the books on the book list is Three little kittens.
We read the book and them followed it with a nursery rhyme. We looked at the picture and observed what was going on before reading the words.
The art activity was to make a kitten puppet. We used a kitten shaped cutout that the kids colored and yarn and foam mittens. Glued them on a popscile stick and retold the story.

When doing something everyday and repeating it, the kids start to recognize it. By the third time we read he book, the kids were repeating the words and telling their own story of  "The Three Kittens."

Octagon and mitten matching

Today we learned that an octagon has 8 sides.
The creative arts activity was drawing straight lines from each corner to make triangles.
Amelia is working hard in making sure her lines are Straight.

The next step was to color the triangles .
We talked about things that may be octagons. We counted the sides of a stop sign and it had eight sides.

The Math game for the funshine curriculum is to March the mittens. Lydia and Amelia were doing a great job working together to match a mitten on the bottom and the top.

Have a super weekend!

Mitten madness

I hope everybody had a great holiday season! We enjoyed our winter break,  but we were happy to be back and see everybody.

Our first January theme is Mitten Madness. We are doing all things mittens and learning about the letter M.

Every Monday Funshine express curriculum has an activity for the letter of the week.
This week it was lacing a mitten and gluing it on the letter M.

The 2 fact card this week is Scarf and Mitten. We learn the Spanish word on the other side. I like how the kids are learning the word matches with the picture .

For creative arts we made "a one of a kind" Mitten shape picture. We practiced cutting and stamping .
These are truly  one of a kind๐Ÿ™‚.

Check back tommorrow (hopefully,we have a snow day today) to see what else we do with mittens and cold weather.
