Earth day fun

Happy Monday!

Hope your weekend was filled with fun.
Last week we did earth day activities.
We talked about how we can do several things to keep the earth clean and healthy.

The whole world in my hands were made with shaving cream, glue and food coloring. Once it dried, it had a very cool texture .
The kids had so much fun that they wanted to continue playing with the shaving cream.

We also talked about the moon and planets on earth . The foil peices are rock on the earth.

Today started the air topic. Kite flying was the talk of the day. We discovered that without wind, a kite cannot fly. Gravity will make them  stay down without a windy day.

Funshine likes to have a creative day where using the materials we have to create. Today was making a kite. The kids loved flying them.

Here is a few pictures of action flying .

Check back at the end if the week as we finish up our April themes and a jump into May.

Floating along...

We have been out in space this week. We have been pretending to be astronauts and floating.

We made these really cool rocket ships puppets and counted backwards and flew them around in space.

Here's a cute video of kaelis flying yet rocket .

Today we talked about orbit and hoe the earth goes round and round. That is why there is day and night and different places it is night when it is day where we live. The girls had a huh? Look on their face. Ha! We made a orbit and it goes round and round like the earth.

I would have never have thought of this and funshine express thought of it! Thank goodness for their ideas.

Earth day and hot air balloons are up next!

Airplanes, helicopters

We finished our 1st week of up and away.
Airplanes and helicopters were be topic this week.
We made our own airplanes and took them outside to fly them outside.
We discussed the difference between and airplanes and helicopters.
Kaelis said "airplanes have wings like arms and helicopters have perpellers like short arms." Ha!
Airplanes go faster than helicopters. Helicopters can get people to the hospital faster.  Were  all things that were discussed at circle time.

For math we played shapes in the air. The girls matched the shape cards to the shapes on the hot air balloon.

For movers and shakers we pretended to fly like airplanes and helicopters.

Monday we start outer space and talk about earth day. Come back and see all the things we will be doing!

Up and away

We have enjoyed our up and away theme so far.
We are learning about things that are in the sky, things that go up into the sky.

Some examples we went over were, kite, clouds, birds, airplanes and sun.
Our first activity of the new theme was oh, Mr. Sun.

We painted the sun and folded it in half to provide a design and them used paint to make Rays.
I let them do all the cutting , so their circles are not quite round, but it's the process, not the product.

We have had a ton of cloudy and raining weather, so being outside is a little more challenging, but we look out the window instead to see what's up in the sky.

Mr. Eduardo the expressive eagle is our character trait for funshine for this theme. . He helped us understand all different expressions and how it is important to have expressions. We always need to try to use our words if a friend hurts my feelings.

Clouds are really cool and I enjoy teaching about them.
It is crazy every time I look up in the sky and see a cloud shaped into something.
We made some cloud shapes of own using cotton balls.

Science can so simple and fun. Funshine makes science both those and more. Straws and cotton balls were all we needed to use our breath "wind" to move the clouds (cotton balls)

Lena and Kaelis are busy counting kite ribbons for Math. They had to pick a red a red card with a number on it and then put that many ribbons on the strings.
I added a twist and we took some away and then counted how many we took away. That way was not so fun😉,according to the girls. Ha!

If you are needing more time or out of ideas for curriculum, I would highly recommend funshine  The planning is all finished and all supplies you need come right to your door. That is my kinda way of lesson planning.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Check back later in the week for more fun.

Spring is going full force around here.
Everyday we look out the window. Grass is greener, more blooms are on trees, the weather is warmer.
Our project yesterday for Funshine was flower headbands.
Aren't they beautiful?!

Also on the agenda was Birdie, Birdie, Birdie.
Lena is working very hard on her birdies.

Since the topic was nests and Birds and eggs, I thought it would be fun to sort using eggs and nests.

The game of his month was Birds nest.
The idea was to put the game peices of eggs and birds in a basket (any kind is container would work) and whatever card the picked (bird/egg) they then would figure out if it was in the nest or out of the nest.

Funshine express always had a topics card, that has the English word on one side and the Spanish word in the other side. Today we learned nest in Spanish.

Tomorrow we will finish up our Spring has Sprung and go flying right into Up and Away!

april showers bring May flowers

We have continued our Spring has Sprung Theme and we are learning so many things about seeds and flowers and what happens in the spring time.
I for one love talking about spring because warm weather is right around the corner. There is
so much beauty in Spring. The trees bloom, tulips start to rise, the grass turns green and the smell of freshly cut grass is the best! So onto our days.  We made aApril Showers bring May flowers activity. The tulle represents rain and when lifted up it shows beautiful showers.

This is the book of the month from Funshine

It talks about all the things happen in the sprin time. What kind of things we see during the spring.

I love to cook with the kids because I love seeing the excitement they get everytime they get to help stir, help pour, measure.
The cooking activity for Funshine express was maple syrup muffins. Prior to making these, we watched a video on YouTube on how maple syrup is made and where Sap that is used to make maple syrup comes from. That got the process rolling.

I would say Kaelis enjoyed them!

Spring is also about planting and watching seeds grow. First, we have to have a pot to plant them in. We painted flowers on cups and will use them to plant grass seeds in.

One of things I love about teaching preschool is all the things that you can observe through play. If the kids wanted to play all day, I would forgo my lesson and let them go. They learn so many life skills through play . Lena decided to have a cupcake party and counted how many cupcakes and then how many friends there were to make sure she had enough . See, math right there.
Hope you have a great rest of the week and I will be back on Friday with lots more fun.

Spring has sprung

Since we are spring break, we did our 2 days of April before break.
Since eggs are something kids always associate Easter with, we did several activities with eggs.
We made a decorative egg first and then the next day made chicks with them.

For our character counts I introduced Hailee the hardworking hummingbird.
We discussed what hardworking means. It means to use a lot and time to get things done .Hailee always helps to clean up the room after she is done playing. In order to get things done, everybody has to work together .

Our last activity for the week was Bunny treat cones.

Look at that cute little tail!

Have a great Easter and catch me Monday on Instagram for spring has sprung activities. @coleyclark30
