Wings...

Happy hump day!

We have been busy learning about fairys this week and wings.

Funshine includes a music and movement cd with the first box of the year.
There are songs on it for the whole year of themes and Capes and Wings is one of them. This is such a fun song to dance to.

Here are the lyrics , it's to the tume of "Mary had a little lamb."
We have been listening and dancing to it repeatily everyday.

We made make believe magic wands. When I asked the kids what they thought the magic wands were used for, they all said magic!

When they finished the wands we used them to find triangles and made them magically appear.
We had to put on our super hero capes as well.

For the social and emotional part of the curriculum, we discussed Real vs. Pretend.  We talked about when people dress up in scary costumes, it's only an outfit and they can take it off and not be scary.
The girls demonstrated pretend by putting dress up clothes on and pretending to eat the food. You got it!

We will finish up this week and dive into November... already?

Capes continued....

At the end of the week we continued with capes and made really cute super hero masks.

Amelia snapped this picture for me and it was not completely dried yet, so don't pay attention to the purple glue.

Next week we will learn more about wings and fairys and then still add some capes in.

We had a short week because of conferences , so next week we will jump right into business...

Wings and capes

Happy hump day!

I hope all of you are enjoying the week and it is finally starting to cool off!

Each month I get so excited with the new Funshine express themes and all the fun stuff that comes in it.
This week we are talking about super heros and what they do, wear, talk like.

One of the letters of the week is "F". We always say the sound out loud and then think of words that begin with that letter. On the letter card, there is a football and then fox.
These are the words we discovered, foot,  family, frog.
We made the letter f for fire and and added orange and yellow tissue pieces to it.

Not only do we learn letters, but numbers of the week as well. 6 is the number for this week. One of friends said 9, but when we put the superheroes on the dark color squares, we discovered it was 6. That same friend mentioned it was an upside down 9. Well... yep

At circle time we went over the word cape. Who wears capes? Why do they wear capes? What do the capes help them do?
One of the activities was making their own capes. All of them thought it was really cool too.

They put them on and danced to the capes and wings song that comes with the curriculm!

Fire dog and paleontologist belr.

We have enjoyed our activities and learning about dinosaurs and digging for Dino bones. We also learned about fire safety week and that dalmations are fire dogs.

We made cute fire dogs and read the book Fire station.

Paleontologist is one of the word wall words that came in the Funshine curriculm and it's a big word. We sounded it out and the kids did pretty good saying it. We said it over and over again. We talked about what they do and the tools they use to dig.

The creative arts activity was making a paleontologist tool belt.
We cut out the tool shapes and then colored them. We added them to a sentence strip for a belt.
Amelia was fixing everything with hers.

She even wore a hard hat. We pretended to dig and find bones.
Next week we learn about capes and wings!

Letter E and Dino game

Today we learned about the letter "E" and that elephant, ear and earth all start with "e.
For creative arts we used green paint and colored the letter and then added stars.

The game of the month that came in the Funshine express curriculm was Dino math. The kids would roll the dice that has colored footprints, whatever color they rolled , they would move their dinosaur to that color.

We had dancing with dinosaurs to the trex stomp song that was on the cd which is part of the curriculum.

Dinosaur fun

We are having a blast learning about dinosaurs. We observed all the different ones and shapes an sizes and matched them to their fossil with a matching game that comes in the curriculm every Month.

Yesterday we used dinosaurs to stomp in paper with paint.

The book of the month is We're going on a dinosaur hunt. I sang the tune just like we are going on a bear hunt. We had to read it over aver and over again.

One of the words on our word wall is bones. At circle time we discussed what a fossil is. We used playdough and little dinosaurs to practice making fossils.... then it was, what're  can use that will make a fossil. It turned out to be a lot fun and see all the prints in the playdough.

Dinosaurs are such a fun theme and can be extended in so many different ways. We have so much more planned.
