Island getaway cont.

We have had a great start to the school year.  

We have been enjoying learning about islands and pretending we were at the beach. 

We learned about seashells. We practiced our fine motor skills by lacing yarn in our seashell. 

Funshine express will provide most of the materials when doing creative arts. 

This particular activity was still creative arts, but Funshine express suggests materials for certain activities and the good thing, is looking through and knowing what you will need for that acidity . Funshine provides you a supply list of materials if you wish to do that activity. 

The ocean had been a fun activity to learn about and I thought what better than using water beads for the ocean. Adding sea animals that we learned is providing the perfect opportunity for hands on learning. 

Island getaways

This week and last we have been talking about islands and oceans and sea creatures. 

I first have to say, when starting school after summer breaks can be hard and transitioning to a structure schedule will happen over time. 

So circle time had a been an ongoing learning process. Learning to sit, takes turns speaking and listening. 

 They might not be looking at you,or to sitting  the right way or playing, but one day when play is happening and the kids play circle time and you hear them saying the words we are learning, counting the calender with the pointy stick and then I hear "it's August" exactly how I say it and I make such a big deal out of it because they are listening and looking and it shows . Imaginary play is the best and so much learning can happen.

Ok, on with the fun. 

On Friday we made a beach scene with beach chairs and an umbrella. 

My favorite was Amelia added people to the chairs and just had a conversation. 

Today we made fish with shiney fins. The consensus was it was Dori.

Welcome back

Hi everybody.

Tuesday was our official first day of school and all the friends were so excited to be reunited and enjoyed sharing adventures with each other. 

We started right back with Funshine express. I decided to do fireflies this year because all the friends are older this year.

We started in the middle of the August curriuculm with pesky picnic pests. 

We talked about what kind of bugs may show up at a picnic. 

We thought of foods we may pack in a picnic. 

The friends enjoyed having a picnic and watching out for ants. 

We made a picnic pest picture. 

We reviewed the colors blue and purple .

This week we will be learning about island getaway. 

Animals all around

Mary had a little lamb pull you was a huge hit. The friends pulled the sheep right along while we played the song Mary had a little lamb.

The friends even made the "baa" sound.

One of the activities for animals all around theme was making binoculars. Let me tell you, this was such a fun activity. First, the friends used them to find all kinds of jungle animals, then they decided to make a train and ride it around in the safari and use their binoculars to find animals. 

One if the table activities(that is what j call them) was knot learn about the opposites  above and below. The friends had to figure out which items belonged above or below the ground. 

Next week is our final week for summer. I AMY continue to post things we did he last week and some different things in the summer. I look forward to returning in the fall!

May flowers...

Gosh, we are down to our 2 weeks of school. This year flew by. 

We have been doing a lot of flowers and rain activities. It has been raining a lot so it's been perfect.

We got water colors out to decorate our big flowers. It had been awhile since we painted with water colors and the friends observed that when they dip the paintbrush in the water , the paint disappears and the water gets dirty. Interesting how that works huh?

This flower game was on of the many activities that came with the Funshine curriculum. At first I just set it  out and observed what they would do. Some just placed the flowers in the garden, others just sorted the flowers without the garden. 

After that, than we did the songs that go with them. 

We made these cute Mother's Day cards.  When they open them up, the moms get a smiling face looking at them.

I made some tulips with foil and put in some music and the friends jumped from tulip to tulip to music. They loved it!

End of let it rain

Last week we wrapped up our let it rain theme. It rained a lot, so it was a perfect theme. We saw a lot of puddles form.

We worked on fine motor by using droppers with paint to make puddles.

One of the games in the Funshine curriuculm this month was to match the sailboat to the raincoat colors. 

One of be books that was on the Funshine book list was Little Cloud. After we learned about all the shapes the clouds were, we made our own shapes using cottonballs.

Let it rain

Let it rain is for sure a great topic to talk about. It has rained the last 2 days and the weather chart had not changed from rainy.

Funshine express is really good at picking theme that go perfect with the seasons.

 

The past couple days we have worked hard on our raining flowers pictures.

Day 1 we drew blue circles for rain drops.

Day 2 we added the raindrops and flowers and grass. 

It is amazing what children soak up.

I asked them if they remember what the blue dots are and why we used a blue crayon.

They all knew it was raindrops and water is blue.

 

It has been pretty raining and gloomy so we all did a sunshine dance today.
